An estimated 10 million wisdom teeth are removed every year from American patients. For some people, the removal of wisdom teeth isn’t necessary. For others, it’s important to have them removed in order to preserve the look and function of your existing teeth.
At All Pro Dental, our dental technicians will take a dental x-ray of your teeth and jaw in order to determine whether or not you have wisdom teeth or if they are impacted and need to be removed in the future. Generally, wisdom teeth will not need to be removed under the following circumstances:
Keep in mind that the majority of patients who have wisdom teeth will need to get them removed at some point. Most wisdom tooth removal procedures are done in early adulthood between the ages of 18 and 24 as this is when this last set of molars begins to form. These molars often become impacted (the main reason for removal) and disrupt the rest of the teeth, causing bite and jaw issues as well as crowding. Although wisdom teeth don’t break through the surface of the gums, they have a tendency to grow horizontally towards other teeth because there is not enough room in the mouth. This can cause pressure on the roots of surrounding teeth which may lead to excruciating dental pain.
Luckily, our professional dental office in Revere has the technology to track the development of your wisdom teeth as well as the skills to remove them. The removal process is not painful thanks to our conservative dental approaches and the use of anesthetics. If you or a family member is experiencing any molar pain and the wisdom teeth have not been removed yet, then we recommend contacting our Revere dentist to set up an appointment.
