Many dental insurance plans are tailored to have many different variations to provide specific coverage for individuals and families. So the most effective way to know what will be covered is to look up your exact plan.
What Do Uni-Care Dental Insurance Plans Cover?
Uni-care provides a variety of discount dental plans. This includes both their 100 discount dental plan and their 200 discount dental plan. These plans do not provide full coverage for all dental services, but generally provide partial coverage for many different dental procedures. When we discuss dental services, we can often group them into a few core groups: preventative, restorative, and cosmetic. These larger categories are often covered differently by dental insurance plans. Generally speaking, many dental insurance plans provide the most coverage for preventative and restorative procedures and less coverage for cosmetic elective procedures.
Learn More About Preventative Dental Care
As the name suggests, preventative care refers to procedures designed to prevent issues with your teeth and gums. This can include a variety of procedures. Most notably, these procedures are usually covered in your two annual trips to the dentist. Dental exams, dental cleanings, x-rays, sealants, and similar procedures will fall into this category. These procedures are designed to prevent dental decay in the future and are recommended for either annual or bi-annual reoccurrence. Uni-care dental plans will often provide partial coverage for these procedures.
Learn More About Restorative Dental Care
Restorative procedures are often needed when dental decay or gum disease has spread. The most common restorative dental procedures include dental crowns, root canals, bridges, and dental implants. Many of these procedures are covered partially when medically necessary. However, there are a few insurance plans that cover dental bridges but do not provide coverage for dental implants, as these two procedures are both effective for replacing a lost tooth. Implants tend to be more expensive but a longer term solution compared to a dental bridge. For this reason, some insurance plans provide coverage for bridges and not for dental implants.
Other Dental Procedures
Other dental procedures include orthodontic and cosmetic dental procedures. These procedures are often either not covered at all or have minimal coverage. They include braces, teeth whitening, contouring and reshaping, and other dental services that are not medically necessary but can improve a patient’s smile. Uni-care provides some coverage for these procedures including orthodontic procedures. But once again, this is not full coverage.
