What Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Dental Insurance Cover?
Like many insurance policies, Blue Cross Blue Shield works by dividing different dental procedures into different groups. These groups include Classes A-D as well as an annual deductible that only applies to classes A-C. In this page we will discuss the different classes of dental procedures that we provide at our office in Revere and what they mean for your specific coverage. However, if you have specific questions about your personal coverage and the services you will receive at All Pro Dental, we highly recommend contacting our team so they can provide more specific answers for your questions.
What Are Class A (Basic) Dental Procedures?
Blue Cross Blue Shield defines Class A procedures as the basic dental procedures that are often considered necessary. They include routine dental exams, cleanings, x-rays, and dental sealants. These procedures are common for children and adults and are recommended every six months or every year. For instance, you are recommended and covered to get two dental exams and cleanings per year, and usually recommended to get x-rays only once per year. These procedures are designed for the upkeep and maintenance of your dental health and can protect your teeth as well as track any signs of gum disease or dental decay. If you are going to an in-network dental office it is common to pay nothing for these services. However, out of network dental offices will have different percentages based on your type of coverage. Please visit the Blue Cross Blue Shield website for more info.
What Are Class B (Intermediate) Dental Procedures?
There are a variety of general dentistry and restorative services that a patient might need to help intervene in a dental health problem. Gum disease treatments like scaling, oral surgery, and dental fillings are all examples of intermediate dental procedures as defined by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Depending on your coverage, you could pay less than half of the total cost of these procedures when going to an in-network dentist, and pay more than half if going to an out-network office.
What Are Class C (Major) Dental Procedures?
There are larger procedures that often are used to handle restorative dental issues including dental bridge installation, root canal procedures, dental crowns, and dentures that are all considered to be Class C by Blue Cross Blue Shield. These procedures are often used to either prevent tooth loss due to decay or help handle tooth loss by installing a bridge or dentures. Depending on your coverage plan you could pay as low as half for these procedures and as high as 80%.
What Are Class D (Orthodontic) Dental Procedures?
There is a unique class of dental procedures that Blue Cross Blue Shield differentiates from the rest of dental work. These are orthodontic procedures which are designed to straighten teeth, close gaps, and provide a more aligned tooth structure. For adults and children, Blue Cross Blue Shield pays half for orthodontic services up to a certain cap depending on whether you work within your network or outside of your network and depending on what insurance plan you have.
